New legislation regarding Wi-Fi and Internet Access
The days of going to your local Starbucks© and surfing the web with a degree of anonymity may be over soon.
Two bills have been introduced (
S.436 and
H.R.1076 ) that would require all businesses and potentially even home owners, to have to keep for at least two years, all activity to the internet by individuals using there link to the web. The Internet SAFETY Act covered much of this by requiring the webmasters of hosts that host pornographic material to properly label there sites, but this, if put into effect as it seems to read, will affect every one from the ATT and Comcasts of the world down to the local mom and pop owned coffee house giving free Wi-Fi to it customers. If this is the case, companies like McDonalds, Starbucks, and many hotels, will have to look at how they provide Wi-Fi to there customers. Ways of storing this data will have to be put in place. But the question comes down to is this something done on-site or off? And if done on-site, how do you quarentee the accuracy of the data and its storage. This is something to watch. Let us know how you feel about this. Is this something that bothers you? Do you think that its about time this happend? Let us know. A link to my blog will be provided shortly for feedback.
